Impact evaluation of games on prosocial behaviours: a case study on “Prosperia”

AUTHOR: Alessio Magnolfi, Andrea Piazzoli, Matilde Sparacino

DESCRIPTION: This study explores the impact of the semi-competitive board game “Prosperia” on prosocial behaviors—particularly tendencies toward cooperation and competition—among lower secondary school students in the Tuscany region. Using a pre–post research design, the study examines how the game influences students’ inclination to cooperate or compete.

Through player assessments and behavioral analyses conducted before and after gameplay, the results reveal that “Prosperia” significantly increases cooperative behavior, while also slightly enhancing competitive tendencies.

The study shows that, despite the game’s semi-competitive nature, its entertainment and collaborative elements foster a lasting increase in cooperation, offering valuable insights for the design of educational games aimed at promoting prosocial attitudes.
