DESCRIPTION: Is it possible to convey information about civic education and the fight against mafias in secondary schools through the medium of tabletop role-playing games?
The target population of the research was chosen based on the competencies students are expected to have at the end of the first cycle of education, as described in the teaching guidelines: “Knowing the history of the various mafia phenomena, as well as reflecting on the countermeasures.”
The research sample was selected for reasons of feasibility, such as proximity to the researcher’s place of residence and the involvement of professionals in the field of education. The research included qualitative assessments throughout the entire design process, through playtesting and participatory observation using observation and self-assessment forms.
The final qualitative evaluations were carried out in two different settings: first, at the “P. Borelli” Comprehensive Institute in Tornareccio, a small town in Abruzzo; second, during an online session with the Libera Formazione sector.
Furthermore, the game was tested again during the Estate Liberi summer camp organized by Libera Abruzzo in the summer of 2024, gathering additional experiences with 16-year-old students and other Libera volunteers.
